Time to get back to the main layout rebuild, the junction by the tunnels has all been wired up with point motors and track feeds and is ready to go. Now all i have to do is the gas works end of the station, which is not an easy task. I need to install 11 point motors for that end of the station to make it all electronically switchable. Not a job i enjoy because it makes so much mess. I was trying out the new peco side mounted motors and have decided not to use them for use with the pc as they do not go over all the time, and sometimes need you to switch the points again to get them over. So i have to get my jigsaw out and cut me some motor holes for the old style motors. Below you can see in the picture , just how many i have in such a small area. On this page i will include the wiring of the points and the use of the lenz ls150 point decoders. I will also expand on my dcc section of the site.

Paint arrived for me to finish the tmd. Here are a few photos. Hope you like? Nice and grubby now.

This picture is of the track, not the train!

Went to the loft today to cut the holes for the pointwork for the station approach. After being in the loft for 2 mins i changed my mind and decided to get the platform finished. I'm glad i did now, as i finally worked out how to fill a horrible area behind the station. Even though im gradually covering the board with track the small siding i just added looks just right (to me). Here is how the station looks now, lights have been added again, but they still need to be wired, as do the signals. Where the FGW 57 is sat is the new siding, with eddie coming from the spider zone via the triangle.

Not much has been done since last update, its just been to hot. Theres nothing i can really get on with now until i get my arse into gear and do the point motors! So here is a picture of a pacer unit i got from ebay. Just need to DCC it up now. Also in this picture i have started to work on the rail colours with a spray of railmatch sleeper grime.

|
| |
Finally done all the points in the station area, they are all now in and working and connected up to the Lenz DCC system, so can now be controlled by the pc again. This makes setting complex routes easy again with just one click of a buttom doing all the points for me in the direction i want to go. Picture below shows the mess during the work.

Here are some of the new point motor holes and the new ones! Bit of a swiss cheese affect on the baseboards, but when its all sceneryfied you wont see them.

|
| |
Now all the points are done, i can get around to fixing my signals in place for the train movements around the station. The signal below is the Up line home signal which controls accsess to the staion. It was made by hand for me by a Friend and really looks good, im very happy with it. Hes currently locked in my shed with a bucket and a mirror for company and hes not allowed out until he makes me more!

Iv'e done a little bit more work to the signals on Camelot , iv'e started adding signal plates to give their signal numbers, starting with CM1, they are exactly to scale at 4mm square , gets a bit fiddly trying to add them! Up close you can see they are paper but when looking at the layout standing they look very good. I made them using my pc and a photocopier, only 30 more to go!

New arrival, ive had my eye on one of these for ages, just never got around to getting one, well now i have and here it is. Used to se this loco alot around the south of england where i live.

Least the 33 has a friend now , and is not the odd one out!

|
| |
Just one more picture of the 33, i just liked the angle on this one, looks busy, shame about the spray nozzle!

|
| |
Another purchase from the internet, 2 more intercity coaches to go with my other 4, so i finally have a decent length passenger service running on Camelot.

|
| |
Not much work done on the layout over the last week or so due to a trip away, but i have just managed to put in the rest of the station lights now and just have to wire them up. No new pictures , just a picture of some sheds at the TMD.

Things on Camelot have been moving very slow of late, you may have noticed. Every time i go to the loft to do some work i spend 30 minutes clearing trains and stock out of the way just to do the simplest of jobs, so i just end up sunting stuff around the layout. So i have decided ........ i need more storage for complete trains, nothing fancy, just long sidings, but where? Then i had a brainwave, just widen the exsisting fiddle yard. So here is the plan, i have the wood, most of the track and all the elctronics required. Im just simply adding it next to the old yard and exstending right back to the wall on the far end of the loft under the helix, as it just about fits under the incline.

|
| |
Im going to build it separate from the layout, with its own supports, and just screw it to the side of the lower baseboards. You will see from the picture below , the rough idea but it will stretch right back to the far end wall, so it will be a good 8 ft long.

|
| |
Mnaged to grab an hour in the loft before going off to work , got most of the fiddle yard extension done. It seems to work ok and the one siding i have put in place for testing heights and lengths can easily hold 7 coaches. Just need to neaten up the wood work under the helix and add some edges, just incase a train does a runner! Then i can get on with track laying (once i have got it!)

|
| |
Here is a view of the fiddle yard extension from the hill end. I was worried about it getting in the way and sticking out to much, but its fits nicely into this gap and i have not walked into it yet. You can also see in this picture the work i have done on the station, im not sure if im going to leave the overbridge where it is yet, may still move it, and im going to add another lifting section above the centre of the platforms.

|
| |
Here is an over view picture of how the layout looks on 21st of August 2008. Must get the clearner up here!

|
| |
Test running the new fiddle yard, works well, just need more track, still!

|
| |
Keeping my friend locked im my shed building me signals is working out well! I asked him to build me a banner repeater for my long curved platform so the drivers can tell if the signal is on proceed at the end of the platfom so they dont have to prepare to stop. Here it is , fresh off the production line, infact i was so happy i fed him chocolate and beer! Here it is in the "off" posisition telling the HST that he has a proceed on the end of the platform.
